Alec C. Tefertiller, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism, Public Relations & New Media at Baylor University in Waco, TX. He teaches advertising, public relations, and new media. His research agenda focuses on new media technology, in particular streaming media and social media. He is very interested in how audiences choose media in the new media environment.

Alec holds a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, an M.A. in Communication – Mass Communication Studies from the University of Houston Jack J. Valenti School of Communication, and a B.F.A. in Motion Picture, Television, and Recording Arts from the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts. When Alec is not rooting for the Bears, he roots for the Ducks, Coogs, and Seminoles. This does lead to some conflicts when he takes his daughter to watch the seven-time national champion Bears take on their arch rival Oregon Ducks in acrobatics and tumbling.

Prior to entering academia, Alec was a media professional, designing mulitmedia and online communication for small businesses and nonprofits. During his career, he managed technology and online systems for a nonprofit fundraising company, handled communication and new media strategies for a national nonprofit ministry, and served as a communication associate for a large university, focused on email and phone communication.

When he is not researching and teaching, he likes to spend time with his wife, Bethany, his daughter, McKenzie, and their two cats, Biscuit and Jelly. Hobbies include binge-watching, board games, video games, and taekwondo. They are always on the lookout for the best tacos, Texas BBQ, and pho.
